ONELAN Wins Digital Signage Project of the Year AV Award 2012

ONELAN is delighted to have won the Digital Signage Project of the Year Award at the prestigious AV Awards 2012 with their installation at NHS Rotherham.
NHS Rotherham's internal TV channel, QTV driven by ONELAN's Net-top-boxes was the subject of the Digital Signage Project entry.

NHS Rotherham wanted a cost effective means of delivering information across their health facilities.  The objective of the QTV content is to build effective and sustainable Health Capital within the Rotherham community, via the most appropriate and influential communication channels.  The content needed to comprise Health information that could be delivered in an appropriate and timely manner with persuasive impact.

The QTV service is a television network that distributes health information (signposting service information, health promotion campaigns etc.) to television screens located within patient waiting areas throughout the Rotherham borough.   This project demonstrates how effectively digital signage can be used to communicate with a wide audience.  Independent research undertaken by Manchester Business School has quantified just how effective QTV has been.

Universal AV were responsible for the installation of the digital signage, and Onemedia services remotely monitor the ONELAN Net-top-boxes.

Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire presents Queen’s Award to ONELAN

Having won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2012 in the International Trade category, digital signage firm ONELAN received a visit from the Queen's representative The Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Tim Stevenson, accompanied by one of his cadets, Harry Griffiths.

Following a tour of the premises and a short presentation from David Dalzell, ONELAN’s Founder and Managing Director, the Lord-Lieutenant enjoyed a buffet lunch provided by local company Absolute Delights.  This was attended by ONELAN staff, and other dignitaries including the Chairman of Oxfordshire County Council, Don Seale, the Chairman of Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Adrian Shooter and the Chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council Councillor, Janet Carr.

The award takes pride of place in the company’s already considerable array of awards including a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category awarded in 2010.

The company wins the International Trade award for outstanding achievement in overseas sales growth with an increase in exports over the last three years of 295%.  Export sales now represent 44% of the company’s sales turnover.

ONELAN’s export strategy is in part a result of the need to counterbalance the potential impact of the recession on the domestic and European markets of external influences.

Says David Dalzell, ONELAN’s Managing Director “We are of course delighted to receive a second Queen’s Award.  We have recognised that our product is international and we have put great effort into promoting it overseas.  Success comes sometimes from unlikely territories, but overall the international response has been very pleasing”

White Space uses ONELAN for mobile events

White Space is a creative production management company, providing a wide range of production services. The company offers a portable event digital display system; all of the equipment that is required to create a solution is hired to a client just for the duration of an event.

Although White Space has produced some of the world's largest events, they are also capable of competitively supplying even the smallest ones.

One of the major events that White Space has provided digital signage for is GSMA Mobile World Congress, the annual gathering of the mobile industry with 60,000 senior mobile leaders from 200 countries attending the event.  GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. Spanning more than 220 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators.

It was very important for GSMA to have flexibility onsite at their World Congress.  They chose digital/electronic signage to help them react to ever changing needs of a live event with particular emphasis on ad hoc onsite changes. GSMA also wanted the ability to communicate these effectively to their delegates.

Digital signage was the only way of displaying the dynamic digital information GSMA wanted to share with their delegates. The ONELAN system was the only system that could offer a combination of both digital signage and IPTV in real time.

GSMA required digital signage in various locations within the venue, capable of displaying various types of media not just PowerPoint style information. Specifically GSMA required the following:
·    Outside conference rooms:-
·    At least 2 screens outside each meeting room detailing the agenda for that session.
·    Potential to stream footage of what is going on in the room should it become full.
·    Potential to advertising other events –eg Awards party/ GSMA Seminars etc
·    On concourse levels:-
·    Event lists
·    Displays Maps
·    What is happening and where
·    Advertising for other events

There were several key requirements for the system
·    The capacity to relay IPTV over a much larger network of screens
·    The control system needed to be housed in the speaker testing room in the venue.
·    The system needed to include 22 x 42” Plasma screens clustered into 10 working groups throughout the venue.
·    The info relayed had to be formatted into agreed template form in line with the Mobile World Congress event brand.
·    A central control centre package located in the speaker testing room had to control and send the core info to these screens
·    the IPTV feeds needed to comprise:
o    5 x channels of mixed live camera auditorium feeds
o    1 x CNN or CNBC
o    1 x MWLive event TV feed

Two ONELAN Net-Top-Box (NTB) 5500Ps were used: one to publish content to ONELAN NTB 620S’s driving the screens and one for use as a spare authoring station, for monitoring and as a spare NTB.  A central control area was set up on site.

End result – end user assessment of value and effectiveness of project
The System was a great success and surpassed the expectations of GSMA. Over the four days of the event the system conveyed over 1500 unique digital messages across ten groups of screens as well as fulfilling numerous ad hoc updates.

About GSMA
The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide.  Spanning more than 220 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organisations.

Blenheim i-SITE inspires visitors with ONELAN

May 2012…. The Blenheim i-SITE is part of New Zealand’s official Visitor Network of over 90 Centre’s nationwide. Located in picturesque Marlborough, the i-SITE is a first-port-of-call for visitors - both domestic and international - providing booking services for accommodation, transport and activities, along with maps, visitor guides,  and information on events, restaurants and more on Marlborough and New Zealand.  Marlborough attracts just over 1.3 million visitors each year.

In 2011 as part of a plan for a new visitor precinct the Blenheim i-SITE moved to modern new premises adjacent the Blenheim Railway Station.   The new site provided an opportunity for Destination Marlborough, the Regional Tourism Organisation which operates Blenheim i-SITE, to investigate the use of different medias to encourage and increase visitor spend and time in the region by creating more effective and engaging marketing communications. ONELAN digital signage was chosen to achieve this.

Destination Marlborough’s key objectives included:
To engage and inform travellers by showcasing Marlborough visitor
experiences;
To orientate and introduce visitors to Marlborough through maps, visuals and interactive displays;
 To promote activities and events;
To motivate travellers to spend more time and money in the region; and
To inform travellers of the range of services i-SITE offer.

ONELAN digital signage was chosen due to its ease of use, content and display options and scheduling capabilities.
There are six NTB-620’s displayed on a mix of 42” and 32” LCD screens in both landscape and portrait orientation. Since the original installation an additional LCD screen and NTB-620 has been installed at Blenheim Airport. This ONELAN is also managed remotely by the i-SITE team. The content is fully managed by i-SITE employees.

“We had a long wish list of things we wanted the screens to do for us and Onelan provided a user friendly solution to achieve our needs and then came up with some great ideas to take it a step further.  We are thrilled with the result, especially how easy it is to make changes and the ability to schedule screens to automatically switch off at the end of the day or change to display relevant information for visitors who arrive after hours.” said Tracy Johnston, General Manager Destination Marlborough

ONELAN Enjoys Continued Sales Growth

ONELAN Digital Signage has once again achieved profitable sales growth for the seventh year in a row with increased NTB sales volumes up 13% from 2010.

Continued export success has been largely responsible, with units shipped remaining strong at 45% of the company’s total as ONELAN continues to extend its global reach.

Digital Menuboard Whitepaper

ONELAN’s Digital menuboard whitepaper looks at the benefits of digital menu boards with real-life examples of how they are used in a wide range of different environments e.g Ferries, in Petrol Stations, Mines and Universities.
In an increasingly competitive market, digital menu boards enable restaurant and bar managers to keep pace or stay ahead of their competition. For example by using digital signage, restaurant managers are able to incorporate full-motion video into their menu displays and instantly update content to account for last-minute product and price changes for a single location or multiple locations, from anywhere in the world.

This whitepaper gives real life examples of where and how digital menu boards are used. It also investigates getting started with digital signage and provides insight into the best ways to achieve this.

Family Planning Communicates with ONELAN

Every year, more than 200,000 New Zealanders use Family Planning’s sexual and reproductive health services. In addition to its well known clinical services, Family Planning offers sexual and reproductive health information and services for all people at all stages of their life. It runs health promotion classes for young people, parents and community groups, and provides clinical training and development for doctors, nurses, teachers and community workers.

Family Planning was looking for a solution to deliver information to clients at 19 of its clinics across New Zealand. The goal was to manage this from their national office in Wellington. This campaign was another part of the mix to promote safer sex and relationships messages to one of their key audiences, young people. ONELAN digital signage was chosen to achieve this.

Family Planning had the following key objectives for its signage.
• To share sexual health information with clinic visitors and to maximise use of existing information resources.
• To engage with and inform visitors in its waiting rooms with information and quizzes all focussed on sexual and reproductive health.
• To inform visitors of the range of services it offers including sexual and reproductive health, clinical services, education, and training and research.

ONELAN digital signage was chosen due to its ease of use, content and display options and scheduling capabilities.

ONELAN Net top Box (NTB)-510S SSD media players and 32” LCD screens are installed in 19 clinics nationwide, and a NTB-5500P media player is installed at the head office in central Wellington.

The content is fully managed from the national office in Wellington by Family Planning employees. The content being displayed in clinics consists of
Predesigned jpeg images containing key messaging and images, and Local RSS news feeds.

End Result
A recent survey of clinic clients found that 74% of them had learned information about sexual health and relationships from reading the clinic screens.

“Sitting in a clinic, even if they are only waiting for five minutes, it would be possible for a young person to see three or four different messages on these information screens. This is unlikely to happen if the information was being delivered through any other medium, such as browsing through leaflets; nor would they receive the same depth of information if they were looking at a poster” said Family Planning Chief Executive Jackie Edmond.

ONELAN Unveils New Products at ISE 2012

It was another fantastic year for ONELAN at ISE 2012, with a bigger stand and more visitors than ever.

The hottest area on the stand was without doubt the Cyclone Android player and Enterprise Content Management System. Cyclone was demonstrated driving content not only to traditional digital signage players, but also to websites and shelf edge screens.
Another area that also sparked a lot of interest was the QR code generator, which makes it easy for anyone to use QR codes in their digital signage application. This combined with ONELAN’s Ad Hoc content management interface allows a user to select content relevant to them or even add messages.

The videowall dominated one side of the stand with Samsung 46” displays in a unique configuration driven by a ONELAN NTB 6000 and a Datapath X4 controller. Finally a lot of you could see many opportunities for the new HDCP compliant HD Capture Solution; from bars, cafés, gyms and hotels to live events - basically wherever customers want to combine full HD TV/video with multizone layout designs. The potential applications are numerous.
Watch out for announcements in the coming months as we bring our many new products to market.
